Are foriegn cars more eco friendly than American cars?

While automakers are developing eco-friendly driving solutions given rising fuel costs and higher emissions standards for automobiles, in the fast-growing area of ecologically oriented features in car navigation and telematics systems, US automakers are falling behind foreign suppliers, according to El Segundo, Calif-based iSuppli Corp http://www.intel.com/.
And while car makers such as Audi, Fiat, Kia, Honda and Nissan are offering and developing a variety of such electronics, the efforts are not being matched by automakers in Detroit.
And with the increasing emphasis on fuel economy and higher consumer awareness of environmental impact of their activities, the US auto industry risks being left behind in this key area.

This site is credible because it has their references and gives proper attributions and quotes in their writing. But me personnally, i dont know anything about cars, so i wouldnt know whether or not to believe what they are saying.

Several automakers plan to show off their latest alternative-fuel vehicles at the show including General Motors, which promises vehicles that run on hydrogen-powered fuel cells — the Chevrolet Sequel and Equinox Fuel Cell, both of which are concept cars — and versions of the Saturn Aura and the GMC Yukon that run on hybrid gas-electric engines. This site explains Germanys laws about having eco friendly cars. And depending on the friendliness of your car to the environment, you may drive on certain roads in germany. To keep this in action when you have your car looked at they put a sticker on your car telling people the amount of eco friendliness your car has. and starting next year they will have the level up to 5. Germany is really trying to change their ways with how they treat their environment, and it makes you wonder why America cant do the same.
This site was done by auto blog, but it does not say too much more than that. So i don't know if this site is truely reliable. But if this article is true then America really needs to catch up.
