4. People in China do are expected to live longer, about 71 years. but from 1990 to 2000 infant mortality rate fell from 65 to 31 percent. Children under-five mortality dropped from 61 to 40 per 1,000 live births. It is an amazing decline, but there are differences in healthcare in the city than in rural areas. For Example= Under-five mortality is just 16.3 in cities, for example, but more than 40 per 1,000 live births in rural areas. China is faceing a big challenge to correct this, this challenge must be overcame to ensure the right of every Chinese child to survival. The next challenge is the need to help emerging issues related to lifestyle, such as HIV and non-communicable diseases. Air pollution is also a major issue making people sick.

China has experienced problems with its blood supply being infected with HIV, so transfusions should be avoided if possible.

Hospitals in the United States must provide emergency medical treatment to people who just walk in and low-income patients can receive reduced or free medicine. Foreigners who reside in the U.S also have a right to free medical treatment as a "walk-in." Patients in China, however, must pay first before receiving medical treatment, and as a result many dying patients are denied much needed medical treatment. Some patients have even died in front of the hospital because of their inability to pay. In 1998, a report disclosed that about one-third of Chinese people were unable to receive medical treatment, with the statistic being higher in poor, rural areas in China.

Rights
What is your right?
Freedom of the Press
Why does your right exist?
Many religions, philosophies, schools of political thought, and systems of government were spread through writing.
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them." --Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787.
Describe what it means to exercise your right.
The Press is a term used to describe any information provided to people. For example T.V., Books, Art, Magazines, etc. People have debated if freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press are the same thing and other people say they are coexstinsive.
"The press [is] the only tocsin of a nation. [When it] is completely silenced... all means of a general effort [are] taken away." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, Nov 29, 1802. (*) ME 10:341
What limitations exist on your right?
Freedom of the Press, for example, lets a writer publish anything he wants in the newspaper. So with that they could print either truth or lies. So although there is a right saying you have freedom of the press, there are definately limitations 'any discussion of freedom of the press must distinguish freedom in fact from legal freedom'.
Why do those limitations exist?
These limitations exist because its not right to print lies.
If you had to give up this right, what would you want in return?
To not have Freedom of the Press would be a terrible thing. So many things would go away and i dont think i could think of anything in return that would make it better.

Fact #3
Are foriegn cars more eco friendly than American cars?
http://www.allbusiness.com/automotive/automotive-industry-environment/11666325-1.html
While automakers are developing eco-friendly driving solutions given rising fuel costs and higher emissions standards for automobiles, in the fast-growing area of ecologically oriented features in car navigation and telematics systems, US automakers are falling behind foreign suppliers, according to El Segundo, Calif-based iSuppli Corp http://www.intel.com/.
And while car makers such as Audi, Fiat, Kia, Honda and Nissan are offering and developing a variety of such electronics, the efforts are not being matched by automakers in Detroit.
And with the increasing emphasis on fuel economy and higher consumer awareness of environmental impact of their activities, the US auto industry risks being left behind in this key area.
This site is credible because it has their references and gives proper attributions and quotes in their writing. But me personnally, i dont know anything about cars, so i wouldnt know whether or not to believe what they are saying.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15918559/#storyContinued
Several automakers plan to show off their latest alternative-fuel vehicles at the show including General Motors, which promises vehicles that run on hydrogen-powered fuel cells — the Chevrolet Sequel and Equinox Fuel Cell, both of which are concept cars — and versions of the Saturn Aura and the GMC Yukon that run on hybrid gas-electric engines. Rival Ford plans to show a version of its Escape small SUV powered by a gas-electric hybrid engine.
This article tells you that American car companies are trying to catch up. And for the next year to have friendlier cars for the environment. MSNBC.com is who posted this article but i dont know how this article is credible.

This site explains Germanys laws about having eco friendly cars. And depending on the friendliness of your car to the environment, you may drive on certain roads in germany. To keep this in action when you have your car looked at they put a sticker on your car telling people the amount of eco friendliness your car has. and starting next year they will have the level up to 5. Germany is really trying to change their ways with how they treat their environment, and it makes you wonder why America cant do the same.
This site was done by auto blog, but it does not say too much more than that. So i don't know if this site is truely reliable. But if this article is true then America really needs to catch up.

Fact #2
Is Global Warming affecting polar bears?
http://www.nwf.org/polarbearsandglobalwarming/
The chief threat to the polar bear is the loss of its sea ice habitat due to global warming. However, the polar bear is also stressed by other human activity, particularly oil and gas development activities in its habitat.
National Wildlife Federation = has other sources at the bottom of page.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-433170/Global-warming-sees-polar-bears-stranded-melting-ice.html
This site has a picture of two polar bears stranded on ice.
http://www.cosmosmagazine.com/news/2630/global-warming-leaves-mark-polar-bears
Potentially fatal to the polar bear, global warming has already left its mark on the species with smaller, less robust bears increasingly showing cannibalistic tendencies. The melting ice means not only shorter hunting seasons, but it also means the bears, which number some 20,000 to 25,000 worldwide, have to cross greater distances to reach their icy hunting grounds. Polar bears are dying because of the melting ice and many more have their health damaged. Climate change also appears to have altered the bears' behavioural patterns. Late 2004, four polar bears were found dead after drowning in the Beaufort Sea north of Alaska, likely the victims of a heavy sea. In this incident about 25 polar bears may have died.

Fact #1
If Ice continues to melt what would be the outcome?
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/03/090315155112.htm
In this site it explains how sea levels are going to double in this century according to the Florida State University researcher. And it references every thing at the bottom of the page.
This article explains how much damage would occur in New York and surrounding states if sea level keeps going up. New York could experience harsh hurricanes that would ruin everything.
http://pubs.usgs.gov/fs/fs2-00/
At the bottom of the site they say their references and also put phone numbers in case you want to call for more information.
Global sea level and the Earth's climate are closely linked. As the climate has warmed following the end of a recent cold period known as the "Little Ice Age" in the 19th century, sea level has been rising about 1 to 2 millimeters per year due to the reduction in volume of ice caps, ice fields, and mountain glaciers in addition to the thermal expansion of ocean water. If this continues, many of the world's mountain glaciers will disappear. Most of the current global land ice mass is located in the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets (table 1). Complete melting of these ice sheets could lead to a sea-level rise of about 80 meters, whereas melting of all other glaciers could lead to a sea-level rise of only one-half meter.
http://www.climate.org/topics/sea-level/index.html
Sea level rise can be defined as an increase in sea level caused by global warming through two main processes: the thermal expansion of sea water and the rapid melting of land ice. A third of the world’s population living within 50 km of the coasts and a large percentage of them live much closer to the shoreline. Even a modest sea level rise could inundate low-lying regions, accelerate coastal erosion and force the relocation of communities and infrastructures.
I believe that if we continue to not change our ways that the sea levels are going to go up and take the homes of endless people because there are so many sites that say the exact same thing and it looks like they do their research and know what they are talking about.

Middle East Questions
Syria
How did your country get involved in the Arab-Israeli conflict in the Middle East?
The conflict has led to several wars, beginning in 1948, between the state of Israel and Arab nations and Palestinian refugees. Since 1979 several peace accords have been signed, addressing parts of the conflict. In 1922 the British separated Palestine into two territories: land east of the Jordan River became the Emirate of Transjordan (now Jordan); land to the west, from Lebanon and Syria in the north to Egypt in the south, remained Palestine.
What is the history of your country's involvement in that conflict, from when it entered until now? (This will likely be a long answer...)
Following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I, the League of Nations granted the British and the French "mandates" or temporary colonial administration, over former Ottoman "Vilayets" or provinces south of present day Turkey. The two powers drew arbitrary borders and created three Arab countries -- Iraq, Syria, Lebanon -- that exist to this day. Out of what had been known as "southern Syria," the British created an area it officially called "Palestine" in English. The area to the west of the Jordan became the center of Zionist aspirations for a Jewish homeland or state, and gradually saw a large influx of Jewish immigrants escaping persecution in Europe. Immigration drew immediate and violent opposition from local Arabs. In 1945, at British prompting, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Transjordan, and Yemen formed the Arab League to coordinate policy between the Arab states.
Syrian forces met a series of reverses while participating in the Arab invasion of Palestine in 1948.Egypt and Syria formed the United Arab Republic. Syria became independent again on Sept. 29, 1961, following a revolution. In the Arab-Israeli War of 1967, Israel quickly vanquished the Syrian army. Israeli forces took control of the fortified Golan Heights. Syria joined Egypt in attacking Israel in Oct. 1973 in the fourth Arab-Israeli War. ended up losing more land. In the mid-1970s Syria sent some 20,000 troops to support Muslim Lebanese in their armed conflict with Christian militants supported by Israel during the civil war in Lebanon. In the 1990s, the slowdown in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process was echoed in the lack of progress in Israeli-Syrian relations.
Who are your enemies in the Middle East? Why?
Israel because they were the ones they fought with during the middle east conflict.
Who are your friends in the Middle East? Why?
Syria took steps to construct a countervailing alliance by improving relations with Iraq, strengthening ties with Iran, and collaborating more closely with Saudi Arabia. I
What does your country want out of the Arab-Israeli conflict?
What is it prepared to give up to get what it wants?
What will it not give up to get what it wants?

Day 14
Me and my partner went to my house to finish our project. But when i got home every thing fell apart. My power went out in my house! so the tool we have to cut the styrofoam would now not work. it was the last thing to do.... but we could not finish. it was exhibition night as well... and my dads car also broke down so he could not take us to exhibition night. It was a horrible day.
reflection
What did you learn?
I learned about the construction of the titanic...
What was your research question?
how was the titanic built?
What was the answer to your research question?
it took a lot to build the titanic considering all the parts it took to make it run and the luxury of the interior. Boilers, turbine engine, water tight doors, and propellers. The inside had a gymnasium, squash court, smoking rooms, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class kitchens, elevators, fresh water tanks, and so much more. They put a lot of time into making this huge ship. It was made with the Harland and Wolff company in belfast.
Did your final product answer that question?
Yes
How?
The model we built showed every part we researched about.
What did you do well on the project?
Finding the research
What could you have improved on the project?
Probably just keeping up better because i did fall behind a little.
What would you change about what you did on the project?
Maybe how we tried to do the final product, we should have planned for that better.
What would you change about the assignment itself?
I really liked this assignment. I got to pick my own topic and work with a friend and i get things done better that way. We had so much time to get things together and find a lot of good information. I also really liked having the blogger and delicious site there to help me... I probably would have lost things without it.
What grade do you think you deserve on the project? Why?
Me and my partner worked so hard on this project but i dont really know what we should get. I just hope that it is a high grade =)

Day 12
Today Me and Jenny (my partner) went to michaels and got supplies for my project. We had a hard time picking out the styrofoam. Then we went to jennys house and printed the titanic out so we could have something to look off. After that we went back to my house and started measuring each part and drawing the titanic to scale. Now we need to finish drawing tomorrow.

Day 11
Today I got my status report done and my project plan. And I know exactly how I want this project to turn out. Now all I really need to do is start building the model and keep my daily progress of how it is turning out.
Titanic Plan
To do this project me and my partner have decided to build a model of the titanic showing the different parts it has. To do this though we are going to take a piece of styrofoam and cut it into a shape of the Titanic. Then we are going to somehow attatch a piece of white paper to it and draw the inside and the different parts onto it. On the other side we will draw the outside of the Titanic. While we present this peoject we will have index cards with information. We will cover the interior of the titanic, deck plans, parts that powered the ship and how they worked, and statistics of the ship.

status report
What have I accomplished on my project so far?
I have finished all of my index cards, I know how im going to build a model of the titanic for class and will be writing up a plan.
What do I still have left to do?
I need to actually build our model of the titanic and keep writing daily progress reports.
What has been harder than I thought it would be?
finding enough sites required for the project
What has been easier than I thought it would be?
Me and my partner figuring out an interesting topic.
How would I do my project differently if I could start over again?
I like the way everything turned out... I wouldnt change anything.
What do I need to get accomplished before Spring Break?
Write my plan and build the model.

Day 10
I feel good about all the research me and my partner have found about the construction of the titanic. Me and her both found 30 sites. We also know now how we are going to build the titanic for class.
Index Card 30
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/was-titanic-sunk-by--a-flaw-in-its-construction-13449452.html
- The flaws were uncovered by researchers who filmed and analysed previously undiscovered sections of keel.
- They insist these would have reduced the length of time the vessel could have remained afloat after hitting the iceberg on April 14 1912, condemning hundreds of passengers and crew to the icy waters before rescue craft could arrive.
- Until now, it was believed that after Titanic struck the iceberg, the weight of water flooding the ship and the weight of the water on the bow forced her stern to rise to a 45 degree angle, at which point the ship broke in half.
Index Card 29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harland_and_Wolff
- Harland and Wolff company who who built the titanic
- Thomas Andrews also became the general manager and head of the draughting department in 1907.
- during this period that the company built the RMS Olympic and her sister-ships RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic between 1909 and 1914, commissioning William Arrol to construct a massive twin gantry and slipway structure for the project.
- These were three of over 70 ships constructed for the White Star Line by the company, the last being the RMS Britannic in 1929 and RMS Georgic in 1932.
Index Card 28
http://www.atlanticliners.com/titanic_home.htm
- The Titanic had a normal coal-carrying capacity of 6,611 tons (an additional 1,092 tons could be carried in a reserve coal bunker).
- By the time the Titanic left, those in charge of the matter had managed to provide her with 5,892 tons of coal.
- This meant that the ship had 89.12% of her ordinary coal carrying capacity on board when she left Southampton on April 10.
- These calculations finally lay to rest the myth that the Titanic was short of coal during that abortive voyage.

Index Card 27
http://www.deathreference.com/Sy-Vi/Titanic.html
- 53,000 metric tons and measuring 882 1/2 feet long, the Titanic was the largest ocean liner of the era, and by far the most extravagant and splendid.
- It featured a theater, a variety of elegant restaurants, a reading and writing room, a gym, a barbershop, a swimming pool, a miniature golf course, ballrooms, and first-class cabins of unparalleled size and sumptuousness.
- The Titanic promised a dazzling voyage for those who could afford it—the top price for first-class passage was $4,350 (about $50,000 in twenty-first-century dollars).
- Its superabundance in nearly every particular was marred by one fatal deficiency: It carried lifeboats for only half of the ship's passenger capacity of 2,200.

- Bruce Ismay, Chairman of the White Star Line, and Lord Pirie, chairman of Harland & Wolff shipbuilders, discussed a class of three ships that together could provide a weekly service to New York.
- Safety and comfort were to be the main features and the space saved through having smaller coal bunkers and from the hull shape having fuller lines than the Atlantic record breakers meant that additional revenue could be gained through extra cargo space.
- They were to have four funnels and two masts and suitable names were being considered such as Olympic, Titanic and Gigantic.

- Although the Titanic is best known for carrying the rich and famous between Europe and the United States, the Ship actually had several purposes:
- 1. To carry British and US mail--hence the full name of the ship is Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic.
- 2. To carry general cargo and frozen meat since at that time Europe could not produce enough livestock to meet its own needs.
- 3. To carry first-class passengers in great luxury, second-class passengers in great comfort, and third-class passengers with great economy.
- 4. To fly the flag of Great Britain and uphold national honor. Even though Titanic was ultimately owned by American business interests, the Ship was built in a British yard, operated by British subjects, manned by British crews, and perceived by the public as a British ship.

- The three ships should be called Olympic, Titanic and Gigantic.
- The two mammoth gantries where Olympic and Titanic were built were originally constructed in order to handle the building of three ships.
- Titanic was 46,328 gross tons large, she needed many more lifeboats than she carried.
- Though Olympic and Titanic were constructed from the same drawings, and were identical in most aspects, there were differences.
- Olympic was a promenade deck stretching the entire length of B-deck, but Ismay had noted that this area was hardly used by the passengers.
- Titanic was therefore changed in this detail, making room for more first class cabins. Two of the parlour suites on this deck thus received a private promenade deck on the Titanic.

Day 9
Today i got another 5 sites and i am catching up on my index cards. But right now i think i already have enough of information to present to the class.
Index Card 23
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchor
- An anchor is an object, often made out of metal, that is used to attach a ship to the bottom of a body of water at a specific point.
- There are two primary classes of anchors—temporary and permanent.
- The vessel is attached to the anchor by the rode which is made with chain, cable or line or a combination of these. The hole in the hull through which the anchor rode passes is called "hawsepipe" because thick mooring lines are called "hawsers".
- An anchor works by resisting the movement force of the vessel which is attached to it.
- There are two primary ways to do this—via sheer mass, and by "hooking" into the seabed.
- Seabed means the bottom of the sea.
- Fisherman, Fluke, Grapnel, CQR/Plough, Bruce/Claw, Mushroom, Deadweight, and Screw are all types and styles of anchors.
Index Card 22
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winch
- A winch is a mechanical device that is used to pull in (wind up) or let out (wind out) or otherwise adjust the "tension" of a rope or wire rope (also called "cable" or "wire cable").
- In its simplest form it consists of a spool and attached hand crank.
- winches stand at the heart of machines as diverse as tow trucks, steam shovels and elevators. The spool can also be called the winch drum.
- The spool can also be called the winch drum.
- winches are used for towing cars, boats, or gliders.
- The rope is usually stored on the winch, but a similar machine that does not store the rope is called a capstan.
- Winches are frequently used as elements of backstage mechanics to move scenery in large theatrical productions.
Index card 21
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davit
- A davit, (dāv'ĭt, dā'vĭt), is a structure, usually made of steel, which is used to lower things over an edge of a long drop off such as lowering a maintenance trapeze down a building or launching a lifeboat over the side of a ship.
- GRA - Gravity Roller track davit - usually above promenade decks.
- SPG - Single pivot gravity davit - for many different deck spaces.
- Davits can also refer to single mechanical arms with a winch for lowering life rafts and raising spare parts onto a vessel.
Index Card 20
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Staircase_of_the_Titanic
- The phrase Grand Staircase of the RMS Titanic has been used to refer to the first-class entrance aboard the Titanic which contained a large ornate staircase located in the first-class section of the infamous White Star liner.
- Considered to be two of the most luxurious appointments on the ship, the two Grand Staircases were designed to be used only by first-class passengers.
- The staircase featured large glass domes that allowed natural light to enter the space during the daytime, oak panelling and detailed carvings, paintings, bronze cherubs, candelabras, and other details.
- Featured a clock surrounded by an intricate oak carving.

7th Day
Today i got 5 more sites about the titanic. The titanic was almost named the gigantic! I think I like titanic better. Anyways I hope I can find enough sites for this project because I am aready having trouble trying to get them.
Index Card 13
http://www.history.com/content/titanic/titanic-facts
- The Titanic cost 7.5 million dollars (1912 dollars) to build.
- The Titanic was just one of three ships conceived by the White Star Line that would be at the height of comfort and speed. The White Star Line called the other two ships The Olympic and The Britannic.
- Because of the immenseness of the ship, the Titanic's maiden voyage was delayed from March 20 to April 10, 1912.
- There were three real smokestacks, the fourth being a "dummy" stack to add to its size. The fourth stack also was used to vent smoke from the ships many galleys.
- The third class, or steerage, cabins boasted indoor toilet facilities that some of the steerage passengers had not enjoyed in their own homes!
- The ship had not one, but two full musical ensembles, a squash court, swimming pool and gymnasium.
- The ship cruised at 22 knots.

- Was a luxury inside.
- The lifeboats were deemed eyesores on the deck, so only 16 were loaded along with four collapsible boats.
- Boat Deck - contained the Captain's Bridge, from which the ship was navigated
- Promenade Deck (Deck A) - encompassed the two first-class staircases.
- Bridge Deck (Deck B) - included first-class cabins/suites, an à la carte restaurant and Café Parisien. Had all male smoking room and the third class poop deck.
- Shelter Deck (Deck C) - site of the purser's office, third-class smoking room and the second-class library/lounge.
- Saloon Deck (Deck D) - first-class reception room, first-class dining saloon and first- and second-class galleys and the second-class dining saloon.
- Upper Deck (Deck E) - contained second- and third-class cabins.

- Titanic and sister ship olympic shared design plans and had common themes.
- To build such a big and safe ship some innovative shipbuilding techniques and materials were required.
- The Parson's turbine was an essential development in the construction process which it operated off the exhaust steam produced by the ship's two reciprocating engines. that was alomost 4 stories high.
- Required lots of power and the power houses were located in the hull of the ship.
- A turbine room
- An engine room
- Six boiler rooms
- 11 stokeholds and rooms for heaters and refrigeration equipment were separated by bulkheads.
- Thomas Andrews theory about the behind these watertight doors was that they could close off flooded compartments in case of emergency.

6th Day
Today was very productive i got about 5 more websites about the construction of titanic. I also found out about the interior of the ship and what they were used for. I need to really figure out at this point how i am going to build the titanic to show in class, and what to build it out of.

- It took a year to design the two ships. Titanic and olympic
- 1909 was when they started to build the titanic.
- Belfast shipyards of Harland & Wolff had to be re-designed to accommodate the immense projects while White Star's pier in New York had to be lengthened to enable the ships to dock.
- She was then taken for "fitting out" which involved the construction of the ship's many facilities and systems, her elaborate woodwork and fine decor.
- There were three real smoke-stacks; a fourth, dummy stack was added largely to increase the impression of her gargantuan size and power and to vent smoke from her numerous kitchens and galleys.

- Second class staterooms were occupied by up to four people. By the standards of the day they were luxurious with mahogany furniture and linoleum floors.
- The first class staterooms were luxuriously furnished with curtained beds and tables and chairs. The most expensive even had their own private balcony.
- Marconi room- The two wireless operators, Harold Bride and John Philips were employed to send telegrams on behalf of the passengers. They also received and sent messages to other ships. It was here that the messages warning of icebergs were received on the afternoon of 14th April 1912 and the SOS messages were sent when it was realised that the Titanic would sink.
- 1st and 2nd class galley- Food for both first and second class passengers was prepared in the same galley. There was a large ice-cream maker as well as refrigerated rooms for storing meat and perishable goods.
- A la carte restaurant- The Titanic's a la carte restaurant served the finest food. Passengers could reserve tables and book areas for private parties.
- Refridgerated cargo- In order to ensure that food served at tables was as fresh as possible, the Titanic was fitted with a refrigerated storage area. There were different areas for meat, cheese, flowers and wines and champagne.
- First class smoking room- In order to ensure that food served at tables was as fresh as possible, the Titanic was fitted with a refrigerated storage area. There were different areas for meat, cheese, flowers and wines and champagne.
- Squash court- Because the squash court was located just below the bridge but above the watertight compartments, it was used by the ship's officers to monitor the rise of the water.
- Crew quarters-The Titanic had a crew of some 890 men and women of whom only 212 were saved. The crew's quarters were located at the rear of the ship on decks D, E and F.

- Titanic's four funnels were constructed away from the site and were then transported to the shipyard for putting on the Titanic.
- The fourth was added to make the ship look more powerful.
- Titanic had three propellers which were powered by steam.
- The rotation of the propellers is what powered the ship.
- Smoke and waste gasses were expelled through three funnels.
- total cost was 7.5 million dollars.
- Spent 10 monthes building the interior of the ship.

Water tight door
Water tight door
- For a door to be truely water tight it must be enclosed on all six sides.
- But it was generally found unacceptable because passengers and the crew needed to be able to access all parts of a ship without being prevented.
- Boiler rooms and engine all had hydraulically-operated vertically-sliding water tight doors
- The doors could be lowered into place by many different methods, closing off compartments from each other.
Boilers
- The titanic had 25 double ended triple furnace boilers.
- 4 single eneded
- making a total of 162 fireboxes (furnaces)
- each had a stoker
- The boilers had to be kept in steam the whole voyage
- approximately 600 tons of coal was used in a day
- Which all had to be shoveled out from below the boiler
Engine
- proven and reliable but not the new turbines
- they settled for a traditional system
- had 2 huge triple-expansion steam engines
- uses recycled steam and does not waste
Funnel
- each vessel was equipped with a funnel
- each one was elliptical and measured 25ft
4th Day
This is my third research day and today i found a really good sit on google about the titanic. The site had the different parts and explained what each onee does. The water tight doors, Boilers, generators, engine, Funnel, and the propeller bracket were all in this site. It has really good information about these parts and it will help when we are explaining it to the class on presentation day. It explains them thoroughly and i am very happy i found this site today.
Next class I hope to find another site this good to use.

3rd Day
Today is the second day of researching and i have to focus on how the titanic was built, and the designs that led to it. I also want to find pictures..... So that when me and my partner want to start building a model for the class, we can have something there to look off of. Although we still have to figure out how we are really going to do that.
Next class I need to continue getting information about the titanics construction. And even though the olympic was the titanics sister ship.... i dont want to find out it was built as well.

- The titanic and the Olympic (its sister ship) were built side by side.
- in belfest
- The two ships were originally planned to have three funnels, but had a dummy funnel installed.
- This made them both look safer
- They were almost 900 feet long, and required 220 foot high gantries to build them.
- Another luxury onboard was the four elevators.
- One elevator was only for 2nd class passengers.
- Also had a swimming pool.

- Drawing and design
- Design was approved July 29, 1908
- By a man named Bruce Ismay
- They had naval architects and draughtsmen working on the design of the titanic
- Vessels were identified by individual ship numbers
- Two huge slip ways were required before construction
I mostly like the pictures on this site but it explains well how they did it

Titanic http://library.thinkquest.org/J002229F/SunkenShips/titanictheunsinkableship.htm
- British ocean liner
- 882 ft long
- largest ship built at the time
- Thomas Andrews designed the titanic
- between 1908-1909
- took 15,000 irish shipyard workers to build it
- April 1912 started being built
- called the "unsinkable" ship
- Had a double bottom
- Captain was Edward John Smith
- He was 63 years old
- He was supposed to retire after the titanic
- S.O.S was not something they used at that time.
2nd Day
Today is my first day of research... Titanic is a huge subject and there are many things you could find out about it, but me and my partner decided to learn about the titanic was built and what it took to do it. Not too many people know this information and I think it is fun to learn. I started looking at general facts of titanic, to get a better understanding of it. So that is what i did today along with making sure I post all my websites on delicious. Delicious is a very good website that lets people tag websites that are good and full of information about different things. Tomorrow I will research more about the construction of the titanic and how it was built.
1st
Today i needed to make two accounts for this project. I need a delicious account and a blog spot, and that is what did today. I got both of them set up to start saving the work that i do. Next class I will start researching the construction of the titanic and posting websites on delicious.

titanic product prospectus
How was the titanic built?
To do this project me and my partner are going to make a model of the titanic and explain how it was made to the class.
We chose this so people could have a visual of the titanic while we explain how they did it.
I will know it is done when we have enough information to cover the topic we are covering.
I am going to research my topic thoroughly and use reliable sources.
The next class i am really going to research my topic.
